🎻 Big Strings, Big Dreams: Celina ISD Adds Orchestra to Middle Schools!

Move over, math and gym — there’s a new elective in town, and it’s bringing violins, violas, and possibly a few squeaky first notes. That’s right, Celina ISD is cranking up the creativity by adding orchestra to its middle school fine arts menu! (Violin plays)

In a move that says, “Yes, your child can play Beethoven before algebra,” the Celina ISD Board of Trustees approved the construction of brand-new orchestra halls at Willard Middle School (the district’s second middle school) and Moore Middle School. This exciting decision was made during the July 28 board meeting — and if you’re wondering what meetings are like when millions are on the line, the answer is: probably pretty intense.

A Quick Peek at the Price Tag 🏗️💸

To make room for the orchestras (and, well, the actual rooms), the district agreed to raise the guaranteed maximum price of Willard Middle School by $5.98 million. That brings the total construction cost to a cool $104.97 million — because building a school that hits all the right notes doesn’t come cheap.

The original budget was $98.99 million (approved in September 2024), but let’s be honest — can you really put a price on 12-year-olds proudly plucking out “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star”?

Deadlines and Debuts 🎼

These orchestra rooms aren’t just going to magically appear — though that would be very on-brand for a music program. The agreement says they need to be finished by August 1, 2026, just in time for Willard Middle School to open for the 2026-27 school year.

So yes, in just under a year and a half, we’ll have middle schoolers sawing away on cellos and fiddling with their fiddles in shiny new orchestra halls. Start investing in earplugs and flowers for performances now.

Why This Rocks (Literally) 🎶

Adding orchestra gives students another way to express themselves (without having to yell across the cafeteria). Whether they become the next Yo-Yo Ma or just want to try something new, Celina ISD is giving them the space — and support — to do it.

So here’s to future musicians, shiny new orchestra rooms, and a district that’s striking all the right chords.

Get ready, Celina — the middle school music scene is about to string you along in the best way possible. 🎻✨
